When the happy couple get married, they give each other a
"dowry," which is property or cash. Female children are usually seen
as of lesser importance in our culture than boys. They are regarded to be
useless to the family.
Therefore, at the reception, a group of avaricious people
demand a lot of money or riches from the parents of the brides. The majority of
dowry victims are young females who are homeless and ignorant.
If the guardians don't agree to their bridegroom's demands,
they harass their wives and on occasion physically torture them. As a result, a
large number of them are divorced, kill themselves, or get killed by their
partners. Our entire society has been affected by this system.
At present, a parent
cannot even consider his daughter being married without giving the bridegroom
with dowry. I strongly reject this terrible system of society. This awful
system has to be removed from society right away.
This social sickness can be cured by changing attitudes
among individuals, especially those of the male population, and by imposing
powerful legal sanctions against those who take dowry money.
